My Story
I began writing in high school when I joined my school newspaper. I quickly took an interest to sports and became the sports editor. I attended the College of St. Benedict in St. Joseph, Minnesota where I studied English and Hispanic Studies. I did sports photography and writing for St. Benedict Athletics while there, as well as became the Sports Editor of the school paper, The Record. Upon graduating, I worked as a journalist for Star Publications in Sauk Centre, Minnesota. I wrote sports, features, and human interest pieces. After working as a journalist for a year, I went back to school for teaching and got my Masters of Education at the University of Minnesota. I got my first teaching job teaching 8th Grade English with Shakopee Public Schools. I then decided I wanted to do more than was possible as a teacher—I decided to go back to school for Addictions Counseling. I am now attending the Hazelden Betty Ford Graduate School of Addiction Studies for my Masters in Addictions Counseling. I am working towards obtaining my LADC and LPCC in Minnesota. Aside from schooling, I love running and have run 3 marathons. I am also a big camper, hiker, and outdoors enthusiast.
